Karunaratne carrying his bat, scoring 158*.
Wow!

He's turning out to be a pretty decent opener for Sri Lanka.
Ok, his Test average is still only 36, but in these times, that's not too bad for Sri Lanka.
This is his 50th Test, he's got 3344 runs.
So he and Brathwaite are pretty close to each other in stats right now.
Both have 8 Test hundreds.

Steyn 420 Test wickets, Herath 419 Test wickets - both playing this game. :-)
Shaun Pollock holds the alltime record for South Africa with 421 wickets.

SA 73 all out!
Wow!
And that, after their 126 all out in the first innings.

What's with South Africa in sub-continental conditions?
Ok, this is Galle, so you can expect drama - but even by SA standards, this is pathetic.
Wasn't Amla at least supposed to be good in these conditions?
Even he has completely lost it now.

10-fer for Dilruwan Perera in this game. Herath has 5 for the match.

Herath goes ahead of Pollock and Steyn in this game.

Next target is Richard Hadlee (431), then Kapil Dev (434).

I think that's where Herath will stop (assuming he gets that far).

South Africa once again staring at a massive defeat.

Has batting in the sub-continent become SO difficult for non-subcontinent sides?

Is it the wickets, is it the bowlers, is it the batsmen's technique, is it their mindset?

Or a combination?

Australia and South Africa seem to be most easily overawed by the conditions.

New Zealand and England less so, even if they have suffered defeats recently.

They manage to show SOME resistance - South Africa seem to have completely lost it here.

They'll be glad it's just a 2-Test series.

And mind you, this isn't even a great Sri Lanka side.

Herath is of course dangerous, but in this series Dhananjaya and Dilruwan Perera are getting loads of wickets.

What was South Africa's preparation against spin, going into this series?

A word for Maharaj.

In this doom and gloom for his side, he has managed a 12-fer for the match (including a nine-fer in the first innings).

Conceded quite a few - but he will treasure these figures.

His team though is having a most forgettable time.

Amla? What has happened to you?

I remember Amla getting a 250+ score in India on one of his tours early in his career.

He used to be a skilful player of spin - what's happened to him?

So, as expected, South Africa get thrashed.
Defeat by 199 runs - though it could have been worse, if Theunis and Bavuma hadn't got together for a decent partnership.

Very well done, Theunis.
A 100 in these conditions is highly creditable.

Herath picks up 6 to take his career tally to 430 now, just 1 behind Richard Hadlee.

Sri Lanka's next series is against England?

Meanwhile we move on to the ODIs between SL and South Africa.
I expect South Africa to put up a much better showing in these at least.

Looking froward to this series. Should be a good contest. Real test for India playing in these conditions, but England’s attack is aging while still effective (much like myself)
