I do read some of Misty's posts. :-)
Maybe I missed the ones on Carey.
He's not an IPL player, so chances that I'd have heard of him are low. :-)
What about Neser?
Is he the very poor man's Shane Watson?
Just checked his profile - apparently he was born in South Africa.
So even Australia has started this?
Initially it was England, then New Zealand joined the party, now Aussies too? :-)

to pay him some credit, he was on the Carey bandwagon before anyone else here, including the national selectors

Are England hurting after their defeat by minnows Scotland? Is this the loss the current leading ODI team needed?

Re: England vs Australia: Limited Overs Series; June, 2018
Carey came to prominence last summer raja when he eclipsed the domestic wicket taking record. That gave him a foothold in rep games and he has made every post a winner. The Sth OZ Redbacks keeper has now leapfrogged Wade, Nevill with only Tim Paine ahead of him in the national pecking order.raja wrote:Never heard of Carey and Neser.
Neser is a late bloomer. Came to OZ from Sth Africa as a boy. Has had two solid successive Shield seasons for the Qld Bulls. This year specially. He is now being seen as an all round prospect.

Re: England vs Australia: Limited Overs Series; June, 2018
Thanks, BGM and Katto.
I quite like Paine - ok, that's PainE. :-)
Always happy to see newcomers get a chance - we badly need them to come through.
Sure we're going through a major slump right now (let's not kid ourselves we aren't), but hopefully we'll have a half-decent squad when we tour for the Ashes next year. That's all I want - a half-decent squad which plays out of its skin. Even if a 5-0 defeat looms, can't ask for more than giving it your best.

J Richardson and Neser are unknowns for me too Raja. Jhye Richardson announced himself in the U19s a couple of years ago. He is a product of the Dennis Lillee Bowling Academy in Perth. Work was that he was among the quickest bowlers to attend the academy.. His FC record of 6 m 22 w @28 is not earth shattering. But selectors see something X factor in him. He has the game to play all formats inho.

Carey is a very talented wicketkeeper batsman.
He was the reason South Australia won the Big Bash and is a star in the making if he handles England conditions.
A charismatic player and personality.
Neser can slog and bowl medium pace lucky to make the squad IMO.

Australia only bowl 7 overs of spin guess they were hamstrung by their poor total.

remember the time when the Australia 'A' side were too good for England...
the ODI performances seem to have declined dramatically since Sutherland prioritised BBL above everything else
if we're no longer going to take the format seriously, its pointless sending a side on a tour

Australian morale is at an all time low.
Hope nobody blame Steve Smith & David Warner For all the problems they had. No. they did not play these matches. Team selectors are the main problem not sutherland etc “politicians” who has no idea about the game.
Who are the current heroes of Australian selection panel ? The English want to invite them for a party.

Australia is just behind on power batting cricket.
They'll catch back up eventually.
They gave us Simon O'Donnell.

Yeah - Australia hasn't thought about its ODI team properly since winning the World Cup. Fielding standards were the first things to slip. Now the balance is all skewed and its been so long since the team had a winning game plan. Stoinis has played 17 games and lost 15 of them. Yet he has been a better performer for Australia.
Now the fact that teams like India have their game plan, and England has their own, (that series should be a cracker because India has all the IPL players to change things around if they lose) Australia was left trying to sort its act out after the abysmal showing at Champs Trophy, but after 10 games against England now home and away and winning only 1, it is clear Australia has some serious work to do on catching up.

Re: England vs Australia: Limited Overs Series; June, 2018
What's this?
I go away for a week, and you guys allow England to get close to 500!
So many of you Aussies out here - and I have to do all the work? :-)
Seriously, this is not just a decent England batting line-up, they've got some guys in brutal form.
So much so that Root looks completely unnecessary right now.
Roy and Hales were always dangerous at the top - but rarely did both click at the same time.
Now Bairstow has been moved up - and seems to be thoroughly enjoying it.
And Buttler, ever-dangerous, has moved up a few notches after his recent IPL experience.
All in all, England would love to have the next World Cup right now.
Thankfully for its opponents, it's still a year away.
Having said all this, have their batsmen been flattered by the Aussie attack?
I didn't get to watch any of the games - only followed the results on the net.
How bad was the bowling?
The one positive from all this is that there will be no illusions about Australia's chances in next year's Ashes.
Ok, I know it's a different format and all that - but I want Australia to go in next year with ZERO expectations.
Everyone should be predicting a 5-0 for England, so that if Australia even manage to draw one Test, it will look like a moral victory for them.

Its difficult to say at this time of the year and being out of season.
There's a couple of guys who play test matches that are quite quick and skillful that might be considered if they weren't on a Pat Howard break.
Any wrist spinner should be considered too.

Just checked the result - and find that England have won.
They were 114/8 at one stage - and still managed to get the 206 required to win.
Even at 195/9, Australia couldn't finish it.
Buttler is now a totally rejuvenated man, thanks to his IPL stint.
5-0 drubbing.
Thankfully this is not the Ashes, so it doesn't hurt much.

Re: England vs Australia: Limited Overs Series; June, 2018
I'm fearing the worst for the Ashes next year.
It's not like Australia are going to suddenly find a quality squad within a year.
Or that England are going to suddenly go through a lean patch in 2019.
In any case, England in England always steps up for the Ashes.

What happened to Australian fighting spirit. I never imagined that one day I would find Australians playing with such timidity.

Sideways movement is a bit of an issue to score and take advantage of but mostly imo it is team selection philosophy. Aus post WC are rigid in philosophy and a tad backward to readily adapting.
Only SA beats Aus on roads in tests but this success stuffs up limited overs selections imo and means that SA NZ Eng and Ind have Aus on odi roads.

I am echoing what Squarecut says. Australia is like Germany, never say die, what happened ?
