Whoever win the toss has more chances to win and they are going to bat first. Huh.

Breaking News: Mitchell Starc is injured and is out of the rest of the series
It just goes from bad to worse.

Is Bird the only other quick? Poor selections if thats the case, need a like for like, a tear away quick to replace him.

Like for like is not so easy when you're talking about replacing the best express pace bowler in the world - and a lefty who helps the spinners vs right handed batsmen. They don't fall from the gum trees.

They are called telephones you ring the bowler you have just selected, tell him to get on a thing called an aeroplane and fly to India should be with the side in about 48 hours, having unlike Bird bee playing Cricket for the last 3 weeks. If they are after like for like than it will be Behrendorf, if its the bowler who was Australias 4th pace bowler for the last 4 tests in Australia it will be Sayers. The temptation will be to send Cummins or Pattinson.

Losing Starc is a big blow. He swings the ball at pace. Handly left handed bat too though not in the class of Mitchell Johnson.
For India , Mishra should have been picked.

Whenever THEY SAY that a player can't play due to injury I always suspect it to be a sack but colored as injury to save player's embarrassment

Why would they be sacking Starc? You try running in at full bore, put several times your body weight through your feet at the bowling creas 120 times a day and see how you go staying fit.

My prediction is he will be bowling the 1st ball of the India innings in the 3rd test, currently playing a Shield match and by all reports was very quick and firey yesterday, i rate him a better bowler then Starc and probably as good a batsman.

Tell that to kapil dev or Richard hardlee or McGrath who can give non stop service over decades without injuries.

Glenn McGrath never got injured? So where was he in 97-98 when Australia was in India, where was he when India come to Australia in 03-04, where was he in the 2nd test in England 05, where was he in SA in 05-06. Didn't follow the other 2s careers close enough to be able to quote when they missed tests

Much as I hate to say this, from here on, the series should be a walkover for BCCI.
That Bangalore win has completely changed things.
Beating BCCI in even one Test in India is a HUGE deal. The Aussies were in a strong position to make it TWO.
Not only did they fail to do so, they surrendered completely.
In the process, they not only lost the Test and lead, they've also probably lost a lot of their self-confidence.
The Indians must be totally pumped up now.
We'll be lucky if we can still save the series and return with a 1-1.
I'm not too worried about our bowling - but it's our batting that's a real concern.

was a very demoralising loss and combined with 3 injuries and the cheating allegations I expect BCCI to smash them in the final two matches

Interestingly, Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium, Ranchi has never host a test match.
So, both the teams need some homework time to get ready for the condition

Though I am not sure how much it will differ than the other states of India.

The 8 day break and the chance to get the replacements bedded down will help a lot to help the Aussies recover. Cummins is every bit as good as Starc and Marsh done nothing in 2 tests, so no great loss, lets wait and see if Lyon is fit or not.

I've never seen Cummins bowl.
Or maybe I have, in an IPL game sometime, but that doesn't count.
Never seen him bowl in proper cricket.
Hoping to see him run through this BCCI line-up.

Poor man's James Pattinson.
James Pattinson is one of those bowlers I'd enjoy watching bowl in the nets, he's that good.

They're both rught arm fast. They both can swing the ball. They're both over 6ft tall, but not exceptionally tall. They're both strong to solid builds but not beefy like Flintoff to Merv Hughes.
But Pattinson is a much more threatening bowler with incredible stamina when not injured.

completely different bowling actions and approach
Cummins is by no means poor mans, he got 6/79 on debut vs South Africa

Cummins is by no means poor mans, he got 6/79 on debut vs South Africa
& Ajit Agarkar got 6/41 v Australia on a absolute road vs arguably one of the best batting lineups ever, doesnt mean he was any good

Cummins is still unproven in my eyes.

9 first class matches in his career.
Why do good bowlers get injuries while people like Ishant always seem fit?

Because good bowlers try hard with maximum exertion to squeeze every drop of ability out of their bodies. Ishant has very little ability to gain and doesn't work hard even to maximise what he has

Maybe he tries so hard but because there is so little ability in the first place, it just doesn't put much strain on his body to show it all.

Maybe he tries so hard but because there is so little ability in the first place, it just doesn't put much strain on his body to show it all.
Ishant Sharma when he come to Australia the 1st time around 2008 as a 19yo, showed immense promise and a huge degree of talent, why that talent has not devoloped i don't know but i suspect bowling on those bloody, awful, useless (for anyone but spinners) pitches in India, certainly can't have helped. If he had been born in Australia, New Zealand, England or South Africa where the pitches aren't totally against tall pacy bowlers who rely on bounce, he would have turned out a much better bowler. If you want to know why India struggles to produce quality Fast Bowlers watch the test tommorrow, unless the Match Umpire grows some and calls the match off due to what appears to be a totally unacceptable pitch.

Have a look at the pitch the ICC has let the BCCI get away with. This is a disgrace. There has to be a new law implemented regarding the preparation of away pitches.

With all the momentum India's way and now this shocker of a track I see nothing but a comfortable win to India. Replacing one dud, MMarsh with another in Maxwell is such a smart idea..I do not say. We must bat 6 specialist batsmen as another dud in Wade at #7 provides absolutely no batting support.

That is what you will be hoping. Alas I see something similar. There is simply not sufficient quality against spin in this current squad. Changes need to be made for Bangladesh.

Australia thrashed India in first Test on a 'poor' pitch so it's not impossible to see them win the third Test on a similar/worse track.

Pattinson is over rated. His 70 Test wickets have resulted in 1800 runs at a rather lofty @26+ with a strike rate of a wicket every 46.8 balls. That tells me he has a tendency to leak runs. His FC record is marginally better. 178 @25+ 44 s.r. Cummins has only played 9 FC games. So too early to compare. He does have 7 wickets @16 from his only Test match.

One sports scribe has described the current pitch fiaso as " this Ranchi pitch indicates that pitch doctoring has gone to another level and the reputatiion and integrity of Indian cricket is on the brink of complete embarrassment". Oh how true.
